Welcome to Year 6!
Hello and welcome to Year 6. Our class teacher is Miss Hodgkiss and our teaching assistant is Mrs Bolton.
This term we will be looking at World War II.
Year 6 will spend autumn reading Carrie’s War. We will be using the 4 stages of reading to build an understanding of the story and how the author engages the reader: prediction, clarify, question and summarise.
On Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, will will look at other extracts and answer questions that follow one of the 4 types of questioning: retrieval, inference, justify and evaluative.
This term we will write freely using our imagination. We will edit our writing and improve the language, sentence structure and punctuation we use. We have looked at biographies, letters and poems but now we will develop our narrative writing with SHOW not tell.
In Maths, we will deepening our knowledge of place value, the 4 key operations and measurement.
This term we have looked at calculation, place value and algebra.
Three times a week, we are given an arithmetic warm up to practise our precision and speed of our known calculation facts in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

Monday- Forest School
It is really important that the children have a suitable PE kit in school especially on our PE days so that they can participate fully in the activities. All items of the PE kit should be clearly labelled.
Children need to always have a pair of suitable outdoor footwear in school to enable us to go out and use Forest School more this term.
What children are expected to complete at home:
Spellings- Log books need to be brought into school every day.
Times tables- all times tables
Reading- with comments left in their yellow Reading Record books
