Welcome to Year 6!
Hello and welcome to Year 6.
Our class teacher is Miss Hodgkiss
This term, our summer theme is 'Broadway Broadens our Eyes'.
Year 6 will be reading The Hobbit- Bilbo Baggins is a hobbit who enjoys a comfortable, unambitious life, rarely travelling further than the pantry of his hobbit-hole in Bag End.
But his contentment is disturbed when the wizard, Gandalf, and a company of thirteen dwarves arrive on his doorstep one day to whisk him away on an unexpected journey 'there and back again'. They have a plot to raid the treasure hoard of Smaug the Magnificent, a large and very dangerous dragon.
This term, our English focus will be drafting and publishing a range of pieces of writing. We will read many extracts from a variety of genres, discuss the use of language and how the author has engaged the reader. Then, we will write our very own extracts in a similar style.
In Maths, we will be developing our problem solving skills. We will be looking at a variety of challenging questions that require reasoning and justification.
Broadway Broadens our Eyes
In the theme 'Broadway Broadens our Eyes' we will be looking into the elements of productions. As this is the term that the children will showcase their work, through the Jungle Book, they need to learn and investigate all of the elements to putting on a production.
This will include the study North America- the home of Broadway- and fashion designers - clothes and head pieces.
