Hello and welcome to Year Two!
Our class teacher is Mrs Jones.
Your teacher's email address is: email@example.com
On this class page you will be able to find information about our timetable and what we are learning about this half term.
The first text we will look at is a story called Handa's Surprise. This is a repetitive story that is set in Africa. The children will learn to retell it using actions and expression and then change the characters and events when writing their own version. We will then look at information texts about African animals towards the end of the half term.
We will begin the half term by looking at division. The children will learn to draw arrays to divide 1 and 2-digit numbers. I will include an example on the first homework sheet so that you can support them at home. We will then move onto telling the time to the nearest 15 minutes on an analogue clock (please note, KS1 children are not required to tell the time on a digital clock) and recap on adding and subtracting 1 and 2-digit numbers by counting forwards and backwards.
Our topic this half term is Go Wild! (Tanzania). We will start the topic by recapping colour mixing in Art then use this to create our own Tingatinga animal pictures. We will compare the physical and human features of Tanzania and England/Bromyard and look at the similarities and differences in weather patterns. A focus point of this topic will be learning about a charity called SEED. By the end of the year we will aim to fundraise £300 to send a boy called Elia to school for a year. There will be more information to follow about this and any fundraising help would be greatly appreciated. Please see Topic Overview Go Wild on this class page for more information about what curriculum objectives will be covered this half term.
Optional homework sheets will be sent home twice a half term and will also be posted on this class page. Each sheet will contain a list of activities linked to English, Maths, Science and wider curriculum subjects we are learning about in class. Please send homework tasks in as and when they are completed.
Compulsory homework is the same for every child in the school. Please listen to your child read five times a week for ten minutes. Each child in Year Two has log in details for Numbots. This is a maths based game that allows the children to practise skills of counting, addition, subtraction and number bonds in a fun way. Log in details can be found at the front of their reading record. Please help them to log on for ten minutes five times a week. We go on the app in school so they know what to do when they are logged on. If your child is on the RWI Spelling programme (you will have had a letter about this), please support them in learning the spellings recorded in their log book. This log book needs to come in and out of school every day with their reading book and reading record.
We will be going outside every week (no matter the weather!) during science or topic lessons. It would be helpful if children could have a pair of wellies or suitable outdoor shoes in school for the wetter weather.
Our PE day is Wednesday. Please ensure your child has a full PE kit in school for them to be able to fully participate in the sessions. Full PE kit includes: a red t-shirt, black shorts or jogging bottoms and trainers or pumps. I will send PE kits home at the end of every half term to be washed.
As always, please do not hesitate to get in contact if you have any questions.
